Abstract

The continuing crisis in the humanities and the arts has affected funding and demands novel approaches. Using business techniques to facilitate the production and dissemination of the arts and the humanities in a university setting can be risky. This article discusses approaches that have proved to be successful.

Martin Rapisarda, Vanderbilt University

Martin Rapisarda is an associate dean in the College of Arts & Science. He is responsible for the Master of Liberal Arts & Science degree program; all Arts & Science Summer Sessions and Maymester programs; the “Saturday University â€; the Vanderbilt Fine Arts Gallery; and the newly initiated 4+1 BA-MA combined degree programs. A graduate of Purdue’s doctoral program in Philosophy & Literature, his dissertation was entitled “The Articulation of Difference in John Ashbery’s Poetry.â€
